The Eye in the Sky Doesn’t Lie

A 46-year-old production worker claimed to injure multiple body parts after reporting to trip and fall while working for an ICW Group customer. Her supervisor, after helping this worker back to her feet, checked the internal security camera footage and found what appeared to be a staged fall. Video captured the worker look for nearby witnesses, contemplate her next step, and then slowly lower herself to the ground when no one was looking. Unfortunately for her, the eye in the sky doesn’t lie.

Based on the quick thinking of our customer, the claims investigation immediately began to gather the necessary evidence to defend the claim. ICW Group’s Special Investigations Unit, working in parallel with ICW Group’s Claims Department, compiled the evidence of this worker’s insurance fraud attempt and presented it to the California Department of Insurance and the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office.

Within short order, this worker was charged with felony insurance fraud and has since pled guilty. Her worker’s compensation case was also dismissed.
