Constructing the Appearance of Pain

A 50-year-old man claimed to injure his leg when it was struck by a piece of machinery at his workplace. During a medical examination and interview, this worker claimed to have ongoing pain and difficulty standing as a result of his injury. These symptoms allegedly lasted months after his having surgery on the injured leg. Concerned over the possibility that the claimed limitations were being exaggerated, ICW Group conducted multiple rounds of investigative surveillance to get an unbiased depiction of this worker’s true condition.

What was discovered was an able-bodied individual working construction, despite his claims of being unable to work in any capacity. This matter has been referred to law enforcement for prosecution consideration. This worker may soon need to account for the house of cards built upon a faulty foundation of mistruths and deceptions. ICW Group’s Special Investigations Unit will continue to cooperate with law enforcement as this matter progresses through the criminal justice system.
