Telemedicine Offers Care When You Need it, Wherever You Need it

ICW Group is proud to offer telemedicine services designed specifically for work-related injuries to our workers’ compensation policyholder customers. Telemedicine services help patients get instant, top-notch medical advice from wherever they are. From check-in to diagnosis, the process is seamless and simple, allowing employees to receive immediate online treatment for several occupational injuries. ICW Group’s services, provided through Concentra Telemed®, were the first telemedicine product designed specifically for workplace injuries.

To access telemedicine, employees simply enroll online, and they are connected to a clinician via videoconferencing within minutes. They can use smartphones, tablets, or computers—any device with a video webcam and internet access. Once connected, clinicians trained in telemedicine and work injury care will diagnose, recommend treatment, and even prescribe medication if needed.

Concentra clinicians bring a return-to-work focus to the appointment, saving time for both employers and employees. With Concentra Telemed, injured workers can avoid long wait times and unnecessary exposure to sickness commonly found in doctors’ waiting rooms.

Benefits for employees and employers

Concentra Telemed services offer immediate access to occupational health specialists, with no need to drive to a medical center and spend time in a crowded waiting room. Medical providers can diagnose, treat, and prescribe medications on demand.

Concentra Telemed offers benefits for employers, too. The availability of 24/7/365 telemedicine helps employers avoid costly emergency department care. It also provides access to physicians for minor injury care outside of most brick-and-mortar center business hours. After an employee is injured, their supervisor can easily access reports and work status in real time after signing up for a free business account with Concentra or by contacting their ICW Group claims examiner. Companies with only one business location can set up their account by visiting Concentra’s website. Companies with multiple locations can simply call the Concentra Customer Support team at 844.305.8868.

Best of all, there is no extra cost for setting up this service. The cost for each visit is the same as a regular office visit, which varies by state. The cost savings and overall value come from the many benefits of using telemedicine.

Types of injuries that can be treated virtually

Concentra Telemed clinicians can treat a number of minor injuries that don’t require an in-person physical examination. These types of injuries include first-degree burns, back and neck strains or sprains, contusions, abrasions, rashes, tendonitis, repetitive use injuries, and bloodborne pathogen exposure. Routine first aid can be administered virtually, as well as some wound and laceration checks. Second-degree burns and significant sprains, strains, and contusions may also be treated through Concentra Telemed.

Where is Concentra Telemed offered?

Concentra Telemed is currently available to ICW Group workers’ compensation policyholders in the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

How can employees access Concentra Telemed—A step-by-step guide

When an employee is injured at work, have a mobile device or computer with a webcam available and be sure the injured worker has a photo ID ready.

  1. Once an employee is hurt at work, their first step should be to report the injury to a supervisor.
  2. If the supervisor thinks the injury is appropriate for telemedicine services, ICW Group recommends offering employees a quiet, private space where no one can hear the employee or view their device. This could be an empty office or a dedicated meeting room.
  3. To provide patients with the best possible care, Concentra Telemed visits are only able to be conducted through devices with video. Due to the nature of occupational injuries and illnesses, only video offers the quality necessary to be effective. Workers can download the Concentra Telemed app, available on both Android and iPhone. They can also visit www.ConcentraTelemed.com from the web browser of their computer.
  4. Once there, they should click “I don’t have an account” if it’s their first visit or choose “Log In” if they’ve used Concentra Telemed before.
  5. After completing the sign-up or sign-in process, the employee will be “checked in” by a telemedicine care coordinator to complete patient intake. The care coordinator will begin the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment process by asking questions about the injury and the employee’s medical history. This conversation will help determine if the worker’s injury is suited for telemedicine care or if they need to get in-person treatment. It’s important to establish the nature of their injury right away so that there is no delay in care.
  6. After the appointment, the worker will be “checked out” from the virtual visit, and the clinician will schedule any necessary follow-up visits and send all the pertinent paperwork via secure email. Appointment documentation can also be found on the Concentra Hub.

The length of the visit will vary depending on the severity of the injury. On average, injured employee visits typically take around 45 minutes.
