Investigation Update: Double Dipping Painter Repays $12K

As featured in a previous Fraud Friday story, ICW Group SIU Busts Painter for Double-Dipping Work Comp Fraud, a tip led to ICW Group’s discovery of a California man exceeding his alleged injury limitations while moonlighting as a mechanical bull operator.

In insurance fraud lingo, “double-dipping” refers to improperly collecting the same monies from separate sources, which in this case included insurance benefits for allegedly being incapable of working as well as income from active employment.

San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges following ICW Group’s referral of the matter for criminal investigation. Presented with clear surveillance evidence refuting his claims, this individual pled no contest to multiple felony charges. In addition to five years of probation and 80 days in jail, a total of $11,945.71 in restitution dollars were ordered and repaid.

ICW Group reviews every workers’ compensation claim for fraud within 24 hours of claim creation and works closely with our claims examiners throughout the life of the claim. This due diligence pays off!
